Feeney also bagged his first goal in tangerine in the 3-1 win against Fylde coast neighbours Fleetwood Town in December.

On winning the vote, Feeney said: “I’m really humbled to have won the player of the season award and want to thank the fans for voting for me.

“I was pleased with my contribution throughout the season. I feel it was one of the best I’ve personally had during my career.

“Overall, 2019/20 was a real season of transition with everything that happened at the club both on and off the field, but I feel we made some really good progress.

“The club has such huge plans for the future. We’re all really looking forward to the start of the new season.

“I personally can’t wait to get started and get back playing football again.”

Feeney’s win comes after Armand Gnanduillet was voted The Gazette’s player of the season for the 2019/20 campaign.

Pool’s top goalscorer picked up 45 per cent of the vote from the five-man shortlist after the best season of his career to date.

The 28-year-old, who finished with 18 goals to his name from 36 appearances, beat assists-king Feeney into second place, the winger picking up 33.5 per cent of the vote.
