Blackpool’s Zac Ashworth isn’t short of advice from an experienced figure in football.

The left wing-back has joined the Seasiders for an undisclosed fee from West Brom to end his 15-year association with the Baggies.

He has penned a three-year deal at Bloomfield Road, with an option for an additional 12 months also available.

The 21-year-old is the son of Dan Ashworth, who has recently been appointed as Manchester United’s new sporting director after an agreement was reached to allow him to leave Newcastle United.

He has previously also held roles with Peterborough United, Cambridge United, West Brom, the FA and Brighton & Hove Albion.

In an interview with Tangerine TV, Ashworth discussed his dad’s advice when Blackpool first made contact over his signature, and why it convinced him to make the move.

“I speak to him every day, I spoke to both my parents (about the move),” he said.

“Ultimately he said go to the club you want to play for and the one you envision playing at - where you’ll be happy and enjoy playing football.

“That’s why I chose Blackpool, because from the first conversations I had with the club and the manager, it was something I liked the idea of and thankfully it came to fruition.”

In his conversation with Tangerine TV, Ashworth also shared his past memories of Blackpool before making the move.

“Blackpool is a massive club,” he added.

“As a kid, I remember watching West Brom and Blackpool as a Premier League fixture so I know what sort of history this club has and how big it is.”
