Blackpool linked with loan swoop for up-and-coming Everton prospect

The 28-year-old makes the move to Sincil Bank after turning down a new contract with his former club MK Dons, which ended his five-year association with the club.

It was thought the Seasiders were one of several clubs to take a look at the defender this summer, but it is Michael Appleton’s men who have sealed his signature.

“I’m delighted now that it’s all done and I can’t wait to get going and start training,” the centre back said of his move to Lincoln.

“I’ve spoken to the gaffer a few times and he’s sold the club to me. I’ve seen the training ground which looks great and when I played at Lincoln, the fans were brilliant.

“I love defending and like to play a bit which is the main reason Lincoln brought me here, to play football.”

The Welshman made 145 appearances for the club having first arrived on loan in 2015 from Crawley Town.

The 6ft centre back, who began his career with Swansea City, helped the club to two promotions during his time in Buckinghamshire.

Walsh has yet to be capped by the Welsh national side despite being called up to the squad on several occasions.

He was capped 11 times for Wales’ Under-21 side.

Former Blackpool boss Appleton admits he is delighted to get his man, Walsh becoming Lincoln’s seventh summer signing.

“He’s another player who will add great experience to the group that we’ve assembled,” Appleton said.

“He’s someone who is reliable, a good footballer, but most importantly naturally left sided ensuring we can add some real balance to the defence.”

Blackpool remain keen to bolster their defensive options between now and the new season.

Marvin Ekpiteta and Jordan Thorniley are their only recognised natural centre backs, although full-backs James Husband and Michael Nottingham are capable of playing in the centre - as they did in Saturday’s 4-0 pre-season win against Southport.
