Matt Scrafton's match verdict: The entertainment can wait

The Seasiders snapped up the free agent midway through October, four months on from Dougall’s release from Barnsley.

After taking a couple of weeks to get up to speed, the 27-year-old midfielder made his Blackpool debut in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Burton Albion.

Dougall was delighted to get back out on the pitch, a feeling only heightened by the Seasiders claiming a much-needed victory.

He said: “As a footballer, all you want to do is play football, so when you’re injured, suspended or can’t play for whatever reason it’s frustrating.

“That’s no different for me or anyone else.

“It was obviously a tough time and I had to keep myself fit before I finally got the opportunity to come to Blackpool.

“For everyone in all walks of life it’s difficult at the moment and it’s no different for us as footballers.

“All I wanted to do was get back to work, but even then there was the uncertainty of whether we’d be allowed to play games, whether it would be with fans or without fans.

“It’s behind me now, so it’s not something I really think about any more. I’m back to work now and doing what I love.

“I’ve only been here a couple of weeks but all of the lads here are great. It’s a good changing room to be in.”

The Australian is one of 17 players to arrive at Bloomfield Road since the end of last season.

Dougall admits the high turnover might have played a part in the club’s disappointing early-season results, but he is confident the Seasiders will go on to enjoy a successful League One campaign.

Dougall added: “The results at the start of the season haven’t gone our way but the quality is definitely there in the group.

“Whenever you get new faces it’s good, although at times when you get too many it can be unsettling.

“Maybe that’s been reflected in results but from what I’ve heard the performances have still been good without getting the points, which is the frustrating bit.

“At the weekend, it wasn’t pretty at times but we did win the match and that’s football.

“We have to win matches and hopefully we can do a lot more of that this season.

“We’ve all bought into the philosophy, and hopefully when the results change people outside the football club will believe in what we’re doing here.

“That’s the only way to change people’s minds sometimes. When results aren’t going your way you can get a bit lost but the manager has a clear way of playing, and we want to support him and play his way.”
