Blackpool FC deadline day LIVE: Seasiders still looking to add to squad before w...

The 30-year-old, who was frozen out at Blackpool after not being given a squad number, will stay with the Welsh outfit until January.

Devitt joined the Seasiders last summer on a free transfer from Carlisle United but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club.

He spent part of last season on loan with Bradford City, but the spell was marred by injury.

“When the opportunity came up I wanted to get it done as quickly as I could,” Devitt said of his move.

“The manager showed how much he wanted me, so I can only repay him by putting in good performances and helping the team get wins.

“I’ve played in League Two for most of my career now and if you can put some consistency together, you can get out of the league.

“The squad here looks very strong so I don’t see why we can’t get out of this league.”

Devitt’s arrival at Bloomfield Road in June 2019 coincided with much upheaval off the pitch, with Simon Sadler arriving as the club’s new owner after the interim board had taken charge.

Terry McPhillips, meanwhile, was replaced as manager by Simon Grayson after taking the decision to step down.

Devitt becomes the eighth of last summer's nine permanent signings to depart the club, with Sullay Kaikai the only one to remain.

Newport boss Michael Flynn said: “Jamie is a very experienced player who knows what it takes to get out of this division after his promotion with Chesterfield.

“I played with him during our time together at Bradford, so I know about his qualities on and off the pitch.

“He’s got a good goalscoring record at this level and his experience will be hugely beneficial to this team.

“We’ve got a good mix of experience and young players in the squad now, so hopefully Jamie can help us get to where we want to be and contribute well during his time with us.”
