Charlton Athletic 0-3 Blackpool: Jerry Yates nets two penalties as Seasiders cru...

Two penalties from Jerry Yates and a stunning Matty Virtue strike saw Critchley’s side continue their impressive run with a third straight victory and a fifth in their last six games.

The Addicks, who were ill-disciplined throughout, ended the game with nine men but the damage had already been done in a one-sided first-half.

Despite the impressive nature of the result, which seals a first win at The Valley in 45 years, Critchley is refusing to get too carried away.

“Could it have been any better? Maybe, we could have kept the ball a bit better in the second-half when we were playing against 10 men!,” Critchley said.

“Maybe we could have made better use of the ball and created a few more chances.

“But no, obviously we’d have taken this before the start of the game, winning the game, keeping a clean sheet and scoring three goals.

“It’s three points, it keeps our run going, it keeps momentum building and we can look forward to Crewe now at home on Tuesday night.”

Blackpool laid down their intentions right from the off, pinning Lee Bowyer’s side into their own half and producing swathe after swathe of attack.

“They’re not in a great moment at this moment in time (they’ve lost their last four home games on the spin), they’re struggling for a little bit of confidence and form,” Critchley added.

“We wanted to try and play on that a bit and I thought we were the team in the ascendancy, pushing forward, pressing forward, keeping the ball away from the goal, forcing them backwards, playing with the ball and putting them under pressure.

“Because of that, we got a penalty thanks to a lovely little through-ball and a good run off the back of the centre-half from Ellis Simms.

“Matty has then drove forward from the middle of the pitch and produced a fantastic shot.

“I thought we were excellent. But without wanting to repeat myself, it’s just three points and we move onto Tuesday now.”
