Stewart went in for a 50-50 challenge with Fleetwood’s Dan Batty, which left him floored for a good three or four minutes.

The former Hull City man had to be replaced by Matty Virtue and was later seen exiting the stadium on crutches.

“He got caught and then their lad landed on him as he went to ground,” Critchley told The Gazette.

“He’s got a bag of ice on his ankle right now, so we’ll probably know a lot more in the next 48 hours when the swelling has gone down.

“He’ll probably have to go for a scan, so fingers crossed it’s not too serious.”
