Peterborough United 1-2 Blackpool: Gary Madine's 90th-minute strike seals thorou...

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley has dedicated today’s impressive win against league leaders Peterborough United to Warren Green.

The club’s academy manager tragically passed away on Friday at the age of 46 following a battle with cancer.

The Seasiders paid tribute to Green before and during the game, holding a minute’s applause and wearing black armbands in his memory.

Pool’s players also wore t-shirts during the warm-up with the words ‘4 Warren’ adorned on them.

“It was very tough when we received that news the other day,” Critchley told The Gazette.

“Obviously I didn’t know him for long but when I got to know him and spoke to him, he was such a kind man, a genuine man who was really passionate about the club.

“The passion and spirit we showed towards the end was befitting of Warren, so we’re delighted we’ve got the points for him today.”

Gary Madine’s 90th-minute strike handed the Seasiders a thoroughly deserved victory at London Road.

The Seasiders had earlier led through Jerry Yates’ strike, only to be cruelly pegged back by Frankie Kent’s 84th-minute header.

Despite the setback, Pool fought back and re-took the lead in the final minute of normal time to seal their fifth straight win in all competitions.

“It was a deserved win, I thought we were excellent,” Critchley added.

“To come here and play a Peterborough team that have got an excellent home record and the attacking threat they’ve got, we’ve limited them to nothing really.

“The one criticism is that we maybe should have gone two or three up and killed the game off, but the spirit of the players is fantastic and it has been all season. They give you absolutely everything.

“This is a big win for us.”

The Seasiders really ought to have put the game to bed in the first-half when they squandered at least four presentable chances.

Further chances came their way in the second period, before Posh finally levelled with a Kent header, which came against the run of play.

“I was really crestfallen when they scored to be honest,” Critchley said.

“You know while it’s only 1-0 you know they only need one opportunity or one moment.

“Until that point we had limited them, I don’t think they produced one shot on target. To concede like that was really painful.

“But the spirit the players showed to go down the other end and the character to respond from that moment was excellent.

“They could have easily felt like ‘we’re not going to win this game’ but they’ve gone down the other end and created an opportunity that has won the game, which we deserved.”
