The mood at Blackpool might be low but the players will continue to fight, says James Husband

That’s according to James Husband, who says Blackpool’s performance against Bristol Rovers last weekend proves they’re giving everything for the cause.

The Seasiders were harshly beaten 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday in what was David Dunn’s first game in caretaker charge following the sacking of Simon Grayson.

When asked about the mood among the players, Husband told The Gazette: “It is low, but we’ve still given a worthy performance.

“When the final whistle goes and all your supporters are still there, you know you’ve given a good account of yourselves.

“We’re just taking things day-by-day now. Dunny has been brilliant the last few days.

“He prepared us perfectly for Saturday. Before the sending off the game plan worked, it’s just unfortunate how the game pans out - but that’s football for you.”

The Seasides delivered a much-improved display on Saturday and were unfortunate to come away empty-handed.

Dunn’s charges took a second-minute lead through Gary Madine, but the game was flipped on its head on the stroke of half-time when Ben Heneghan was shown a straight red.

Even with 10 men, Pool still had their chances to extend their lead, but the home side completed their turnaround with two late strikes to condemn the Seasiders to another costly defeat, their eighth from their last 10 league outings.

“The sending off has probably made a difference with the conditions as Ben has slipped,” Husband added.

“Sometimes you get a yellow with that one, sometimes you get a red, but we can’t argue with it.

“Everyone had to play the conditions, they had to play it, we had to play it.

“This game was always going to be about rolling your sleeves up and working as hard as you can for the team.

“We had a game plan and we probably did exactly what we wanted to do.

“Even after the sending off, they haven’t really had a clear-cut chance from what I can remember.

“If your centre half is scoring from 40 yards, then it’s just one of them unfortunately.

“It’s been a tough week, I’m just here to try my best and I think everyone has done that.

“It’s heartbreaking to be honest because we’ve got a young set of boys and they’ve tried everything they can.

“It’s just a bit frustrating.”

Even with a man down, the Seasiders had a priceless chance to snatch a point at the death when Nathan Delfouneso was sent clear through on goal, only to shoot wide.

“It probably sums the game up,” Husband said.

“Everyone in the stadium bar one or two thought it was in.

“We showed character, we went until the 95th minute even with 10 men. You can’t ask for much more.

“From a performance side we’re delighted, result side we’re absolutely gutted.”
