A managerial departure has been announced in League One and it's a former Blackpool striker.

Former Blackpool striker Martin Paterson has left his role as manager of League One rivals Burton Albion.

The 37-year-old took charge on a short-term contract back in January 2024, succeeding Dino Maamria. He managed a total of 20 games with five wins, three draws and 12 defeats with the Brewers surving relegation on the final day of the season, despite a 3-0 defeat to already relegated Fleetwood Town.

Chairman Ben Robinson MBE DL, said: “Martin took up the managerial position under very difficult circumstances in January and he worked extremely hard with the support of his backroom staff, which saw the club secure its League One status.

"The club thanks Martin for his efforts during his time at Burton Albion and wish him well for the future."

His role at the Pirelli Stadium was the first time that he had been a manager of a club. He had previously worked as an assistant manager at Swansea City, Barnsley and MLS side Inter Miami. He worked alongside Neil Collins at Tampa Bay Rowdies, as well as Fort Lauderdale in the States.

During his playing career, Paterson played for Blackpool 19 times in the 2015/16 season. He failed to score and the club were relegated under Neil McDonald. The other clubs in his career included Stoke City, Scunthorpe United, Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City.
