Luton Town v Blackpool - live updates

Key Events

  • FT: Luton 1-1 Blackpool
  • Seasiders looking to build on Easter Monday demolition of Birmingham City
  • Luton can guarantee a play-off finish with a win and if other results go their way

The Seasiders make just one change to their side from the 6-1 demolition of Birmingham City on Easter Monday.

Jake Beesley keeps his spot in the side, but is partnered in attack by Gary Madine who replaces Shayne Lavery.

Elsewhere, Luke Garbutt returns from injury and illness to be named among the substitutes alongside Josh Bowler.

Dan Grimshaw, Dujon Sterling, Jordan Gabriel, Kevin Stewart, Grant Ward and Sonny Carey remain sidelined.

Reece James and Ethan Robson are left out.

How will the Seasiders line up?

Famous last words, but you’d imagine changes will be fairly minimal given Blackpool won 6-1 in their last outing.

I know it doesn’t always work like that with Neil Critchley, but it’s hard to see where Pool’s head coach will switch things up.

One major decision Critchley has to make is whether to keep Keshi Anderson in central midfield. The 26-year-old produced an impressively disciplined performance on Easter Monday, but playing like that against Luton could be another matter entirely.

If Keshi is moved higher up the field, does Matty Virtue get a first start of the season?

Up front, Jerry Yates and Gary Madine will both be looking to reclaim their spot in the starting XI, but surely Jake Beesley will start again after his dream performance against Birmingham?

“It’s a cliche, but Blackpool is the only game we’re thinking about. If you start looking too far ahead, you start to get tripped up,” Luton boss Nathan Jones said.

“I say this with the greatest of respect, I remember reading an article about a month ago saying Rotherham are on course for 100 points, big goal difference and this, that and the other…but games are not like that.

“I know Paul Warne especially won’t be thinking like that, but sometimes the media get involved in things and start getting carried away.

“But we can only think about the next game, we can’t begin to get carried away. We can’t rest players because of this game or that game.

“Just look at Cardiff, they went to Hull last week and played a totally different system and team to what they did against us. They rested big players for our game.

“We haven’t got the luxury of being able to do that because every point is precious for us and we have to treat every single game exactly the same.”

Neil Critchley’s pre-match quotes

“It’s a tall order, they’re a very tough team to play against, particularly at home.

“They play a certain way and you know what’s coming your way, but they’re very good at what they do.

“They’ve had an incredible season, what they’ve done is unbelievable really. But they’re nearly there and they will be looking to cement their place in the play-offs, so this will be a big game for them at home to try and get three points.

“But when we lost to them at home earlier in the season I didn’t think 3-0 was a fair reflection of the performance at all. But it’s up to us to try and avenge that defeat.

“We know every Championship game, if you’re not there for 90 or 95 minutes it only takes a certain spell in a game - and Luton are very good at doing that because they create momentum in the game and can push you back. But if you don’t compete properly, the game can go away from you.

“Our record on the television has not been great this season, so it’s up to us to try and turn that around.”

The Seasiders have no fresh injury concerns ahead of today’s game, while Luke Garbutt comes back into contention for selection.

The left-back recently returned from a knee injury, only to miss training last week through illness. But the defender is now back and available to play.

Elsewhere, Dan Grimshaw, Jordan Gabriel, Dujon Sterling, Kevin Stewart, Sonny Carey and Grant Ward are all likely to remain sidelined.

Luton have injury problems of their own, with three players picking up knocks during their win over Cardiff City on Easter Monday.

The likes of Jordan Clark, Luke Berry, Cameron Jerome, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, Gabe Osho and Glen Rea are already on the sidelines.
