Blackpool boss lays down a challenge after Gillingham defeat

In fact, the Seasiders haven’t won on their travels in over a year, their last victory coming at Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday, September 17.

On that occasion, Armand Gnanduillet headed home a stoppage-time winner at the Keepmoat Stadium after connecting with Liam Feeney’s pinpoint cross, handing Simon Grayson’s side a 1-0 win.

Scoring goals has been a particular problem for the Seasiders on their travels, having found the back of the net on just 12 occasions in their last 18 away games.

By the time Blackpool play their next away game, which will be the trip to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, October 6 in the EFL Trophy, 385 days will have passed since the last time Blackpool claimed three points away from home.

Of course, this comes with a major caveat given last season's campaign was curtailed with four away games still left to play.

Nevertheless, the Seasiders will be hoping to put this alarming record to bed as soon as possible.

After beating Doncaster at the start of last season, the Seasiders played a further 15 games away from home during the 2019/20 campaign, drawing nine and losing six.

So far this season, Blackpool have lost all three of their competitive away games, although the Carabao Cup first round defeat at Stoke City was lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw during normal time.

Blackpool’s next chance to pick up three points away from Bloomfield Road in the league will come at Sunderland on Saturday, October 10.

Phil Parkinson’s men have started the season brightly with seven points from their opening three games.
