For a bit of fun in the meantime, we fired up the latest edition of Football Manager, and simulated the game beyond the summer and into the future. We had a look at the starting XI, key subs and manager it predicts will be on show for the Tangerines on the opening day of the 2020/21 season.
13. Sub: Gary O'Neil
The free agent joins Blackpool in a player-coach capacity, but could still get some minutes from the bench throughout the campaign. Photo: David Rogers
14. Sub: Matty Virtue-Thick
He's forced out of the starting XI by the club's new signings, and he'll be determined to earn his place back in the side. Photo: Lewis Storey
15. Sub: Chris Maxwell
It was a very close call, but Maxwell misses out on a starting spot after new signing McGee impressed during pre-season. Photo: Lewis Storey
16. Sub: Ryan Hardie
He'll be looking to push Gnanduillet hard for the starting striker spot, in his first full season since joining from Rangers. Photo: ANNE-CHRISTINE POUJOULAT
17. Manager: Neil Critchley
After a solid finish to the 2019/20 campaign, Critchley remains in charge. Photo: Lewis Storey
