Goals from Marvin Ekpiteta and Jerry Yates secured a hard-earned three points for Blackpool in their rearranged game against Northampton Town.

Ekpiteta, scoring for the second game running, got Blackpool off to the perfect start when he scrambled home from close range after 12 minutes.

Despite the fast start to proceedings, the game soon became a scrappy, ugly affair and Blackpool had to do the dirty stuff to grind out an important win that ensures back-to-back victories.

The Seasiders were rewarded for their doggedness late on when Yates continued his fine scoring form with a stoppage-time effort to make sure of the win, which continues Blackpool’s strong record on home turf where they’re unbeaten in the league since October.

Speaking post-match, Cobblers boss Curle - whose side slip into League One's bottom four - spoke of his frustration.

"I didn’t think there was much in the game but the goals we gave away were soft,” he said.

“We got some good entries into the final third but then our delivery or our pass selection was poor and we need to improve on our set pieces.

“Our decision making on the ball needs to improve and when we do have the ball we need to keep it more and work an opening.

“We always knew it was going to be a tight encounter, but the way we conceded the goals made it a difficult evening for us.

"But we will get better and Saturday will be another challenge. Y you always get a competitive game against Accrington and we will need to stand up to be counted.”
