Former Nottingham Forest and Northampton Town manager Colin Calderwood has joined Blackpool's coaching team.

The vastly experienced coach has been appointed to the role of assistant head coach and will work alongside Neil Critchley and Mike Garrity.

The 55-year-old represented the likes of Swindon Town, Mansfield Town, Tottenham and Aston Villa during his playing career, as well as Scotland internationally.

Upon retirement, Calderwood returned to Tottenham in a coaching role, before guiding both Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest to promotions as a manager.

A further promotion then followed as an assistant to Chris Hughton at Newcastle United in 2010, with the pair going on to work together at Birmingham City, Norwich City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

In recent years, Calderwood has also been an assistant to Steve Bruce at Aston Villa and had a stint managing Cambridge United in League Two.

“I’m pleased to welcome Colin to the club," head coach Neil Critchley said.

"Colin’s experience and achievements in the game speak for themselves.

"We feel he has the perfect qualities to both complement and enhance the existing staff we have in place here at Blackpool.”

Calderwood added: “I’m absolutely delighted to join Blackpool.

"I’ve seen a lot of the division now because I’ve been scouting for a team in League One.
