In a list published by the Premier League (although there has no been no official statement from the Blades), it has been announced that Phil Jagielka, Kieron Freeman, Jack Rodwell and Leon Clarke have also agreed deals until the end of this season, with the quartet’s contracts set to expire on June 30.

Heneghan has spent the last two seasons on loan with the Seasiders, making 80 appearances in the process and scoring four times.

He struck up a strong partnership with Curtis Tilt in his first season with the club, while he ended this season's campaign playing alongside fellow loanee Taylor Moore.

The former Chester City centre back joined Sheffield United in August 2017 from Scottish side Motherwell for a rumoured £400,000 fee, yet only made one competitive appearance.
