Former Blackpool loanee and ex-Rangers keeper Jak Alnwick agrees move to Scottish side

The goalkeeper's move to the SPL side ends speculation linking Alnwick with a permanent switch to Bloomfield Road.

The 27-year-old, who was recently released by Rangers, has agreed a two-year contract with his new club.

"I’m delighted it could get done so quickly," Alnwick said.

I knew straight away after speaking to the gaffer and hearing the plans he has in place and what he wants to achieve that it was going to be the right move.

"He told me about the ambitions of the football club, the direction it's going in and to be honest he didn’t need to sell it too much.

"(Former St Mirren player) Lee Hodson is my best friend and I spoke to him straight away. He said it was a brilliant family club and spoke really highly of the club.

"I feel I have some unfinished business here. I looked at my time at Rangers and I didn’t really play many games up here but it’s a league I felt I could do well in and it’s time for me to show what I can do up here."

Alnwick was Blackpool’s first-choice keeper last season until he injured his arm in the Boxing Day defeat to Accrington Stanley.

He was initially ruled out for three months but was still unavailable when the country went into lockdown.

While Simon Grayson was still in charge, Alnwick had been linked with a permanent switch to Blackpool during the January transfer window.

However, his untimely injury dashed any hopes of a permanent move south of the border at that point.

The Seasiders subsequently turned to Chris Maxwell, who was brought in on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Maxwell has since agreed to sign for the Seasiders on a permanent basis.

Blackpool and Alnwick reportedly discussed a pre-contract agreement, which would have seen the former Port Vale and Scunthorpe United shot-stopper sign for the club in July.

The picture was muddied even further when Grayson was sacked in February as it was Pool’s former manager who had been pushing for Alnwick to be signed permanently.

The former England Under-20 international started Blackpool’s first 22 League One fixtures of the campaign, conceding 24 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

Alnwick joined Rangers in 2017 but has only made a handful of appearances.
