They made a noticeable difference, generating an atmosphere that belied their numbers, and Hamilton said: “Having the fans here made it an amazing day all around. Getting the three points just made everything better.

“It’s nice to play in front of the fans again and importantly we got the win we needed. To hear the fans, even when we came out for the warm-up, gave us a real lift and got the boys going from the start.

“We wanted them to enjoy our football and see us play well, and hopefully we managed to do that.”

Hamilton’s goals came either side of half-time and both were similar efforts, beating keeper Matej Kovar at his near post.

The 25-year-old beat his marker for pace for his first before drilling home with his right foot, then scored the second with his left.

Hamilton said of his first league goal in tangerine:“I got on the edge of the box after Jerry (Yates) played me through and I took the shot on my right foot. It was great to see it go in. For the second, it was a good ball from Ollie Turton, I’ve brought it back inside and gone for the near post again.

“The defender thought the ball was going out of play but my pace got me there and I did the rest.”

The Seasiders squandered chances to make victory more comfortable but weren’t made to rue their misses.

Hamilton added: “There were some chances late on that we missed but it’s still early doors, so we’ll work on that in training and hopefully finish teams off.

“I thought I did well. I did what the gaffer asked of me. I got into some dangerous areas and tried to get in behind, which is what I do.”
