The Seasiders are in League One’s bottom four after losing three of their first four games.

Goalkpeeper Maxwell predicted an exciting season for Blackpool before a ball was kicked and the 30-year-old is confident that will still be the case.

“I 100 per cent still have that belief, nailed on,” the Pool number one said. “You look at all the successful teams there have been over the years – it didn’t happen overnight.

“We’re a very new group. We’ve not got the results we wanted or deserved in certain games, but there’s no doubt in my mind this group has the ability and talent to be successful this season.

“You could say we’ve had a shaky start but as a group we know there are a lot of positives to take and a lot of learning curves.

“If we don’t learn those lessons, we’re not going to be successful. We’re not going to win every game or dominate every game, but we need to learn and that’s what we’re doing.”

Blackpool’s summer signings have been predominantly aged 20-25. Asked if he feels the squad lacks experience, Maxwell said: “Yes and no. There are some experienced players in there but some of the younger boys have been successful and have promotions under their belt.

“We’ve got a group of winners and we know what it takes to be successful, but at the same time the energy and the enthusiasm we have in the group is second to none.

“Our performances in the main have been very, very good. We just need to eliminate those individual mistakes.

“We’re a new, young group but we’re not coming away from the Lincoln game thinking we’ve done awful or were terrible.

“I think when the dust settles we’ll see that in the main we were very, very good. However, little things are not going for us and little individual mistakes are costing us but that’s football.

“We’ve got to eliminate them if we want to be successful and I believe we can be. It’s early days but we need to make sure we turn these performances into points.”
