Shayne Lavery in action for Northern Ireland - live updates

Key Events

  • FT: Northern Ireland 0-1 Hungary
  • Blackpool striker Shayne Lavery hoping to earn 10th international cap
  • Fleetwood prospect Paddy Lane could make his debut
  • Former Seasiders Dan Ballard and Jordan Thompson also in the squad

Hosts have been the better side, but there’s not been a great deal in it. Fleetwood’s Paddy Lane hasn’t looked out of place on his senior debut.

Could do with Mr Lavery coming on to liven it up.

Josh Magennis flicks it on to Gavin Whyte, who picks out the unmarked Niall McGinn 10 yards out - but the keeper makes a flying save to tip his effort around the post!

That’s better from the away side, as Hungary work the ball into the feet of Roland Sallai just outside the box, but his low drive is well saved by Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Shayne Lavery, who used to play in this ground for Linfield, is given a decent ovation as he heads down the touchline to warm up.

Roland Sallai works himself a bit of space down the left flank but skews a poor effort wide of the upright.

Hungary haven’t shown a great deal so far.

Former Seasider Craig Cathcart is shown a yellow card for a crunching challenge on Loic Nego 25 yards from goal. He can have few complaints with that one, although he gives it a good go!

A Dan Ballard clearance deceives a Hungarian defender and almost falls kindly for Josh Magennis, but Denes Dibusz is off his line quickly to claim.

Gavin Whyte in the thick of the action again as he waltzes into the Hungary box only to overrun it slightly to the goalkeeper.

The Oxford man is looking lively early on.

Blackpool’s former head of recruitment Tommy Johnson is barking some orders from the touchline for Northern Ireland. He works as assistant to Ian Baraclough.

The former Celtic man left the Seasiders in July 2021.

Zsolt Nagy looks set to surge through on the Northern Ireland goal but former Pool loanee Dan Ballard recovers excellently to snatch the ball back.

The Millwall man gets a good ovation for that one from the home fans.
