Blackpool’s managerial role remains a temporary one as far as David Dunn is concerned

David Dunn might have tasted his first win as Blackpool’s caretaker manager in midweek but he insists he’s still got no interest in taking the job full-time.

The Seasiders take on Ipswich Town today looking to build on Tuesday’s 2-1 win against Bolton Wanderers.

That was Dunn’s first victory in his interim role, having previously overseen two improved displays at Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon.

When asked if he’s getting the bug for management, Dunn said: “Not really, no.

“There’s not too much difference (to his coaching role). I’m just trying to prepare the team as best I can, how I see fit, watching the opposition and trying to get them best equipped to win a football match. That’s kind of it really.

“Speaking to you guys in the media is obviously a bit different but it’s part of it, although it’s probably something I could do without to be honest – but I’ve got to do it!

“My job is mainly downstairs and on the football pitch, getting the best results we can.”

He added: “I’m just doing my job and I’m on the pitch until I’m told otherwise. Until then, I will just keep doing my best.

“I’m always one for North West clubs doing well and I always have been.

“Everyone knows I’m a big Blackburn Rovers supporter but I’m employed by Blackpool and I’ll do all I can to help them be the best they can be.

“I’ve had some really good support in the last couple of weeks and I can see the players are trying their best for the club and for myself and the rest of the coaching staff. Hopefully that can continue.”

It’s been a tough week for Blackpool in their search for a new manager with the club having official approaches knocked back for both Karl Robinson, at Oxford United, and Richie Wellens, the boss at Swindon Town.

Despite the continued speculation, Dunn says he’ll carry on regardless.

“It doesn’t affect me one bit because I don’t feel like there’s any pressure on me whatsoever to get the job,” he said.

“I’m probably repeating myself over and over, but if the club get the right man for the job then there will be no-one more happy than myself.

“Then they can start coming out here to speak to the media and I can stay downstairs.

“The club just want to get the right person, so I think we’ve got to say that’s a good thing because we don’t want them to rush into getting another manager and it not being right.

“Of course the club need to make the right appointment. If that takes a little bit longer, me, Tommy Johnson and Steve Banks will continue to try our best on the football side to try and make us as good as we can be.

“If they get someone in tomorrow, if they get someone in next week or the week after, fair play. I’ll be more than happy.

“Until they say that, I’ll keep plodding on and keep trying to do my best for the club.”
