Blackpool's League One rivals Doncaster Rovers rocked by manager exit

Blackpool’s League One rivals Doncaster Rovers have been rocked by the loss of their manager.

Rovers’ boss Darren Moore has been appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager today, following former Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis’ departure earlier this season.

Whilst Moore initially distanced himself from the position he has now taken the job at Hillsborough and faces the task of keeping the Owls in the Championship.

Indeed, the former West Bromwich Albion man seen as an exciting young manager who might be able to save Wednesday’s season,

Moore has joined the Yorkshire club with immediate effect and will be in charge for Wednesday night’s Championship clash with Rotherham at Hillsborough.

Doncaster Rovers meanwhile, have appointed Andy Butler as Darren Moore’s replacement.

Rovers chairman David Blunt said: “We are disappointed that Darren has chosen to leave the club part way through what has been a season full of promise.

"We have made significant efforts to support Darren over the past 18 months and ensure he was able to build a team capable of challenging in the top six. This has included supporting him through the past two transfer windows despite the difficult financial circumstances.

"Our ambitions remain to achieve a top six finish and we hope and expect that Andy will use this time to put himself in the prime position to secure the role on a permanent basis at the end of the season. Andy’s first priority will be to halt the team's recent run of poor form and put our season back on track.”

Butler, the 37-year-old defender who rejoined the club in the summer and who has made more than 200 appearances for Donny, will step up to try and continue guiding them towards promotion.

He has managerial experience with the club, having been appointed manager of their women’s team, Doncaster Belles, last year and having also worked in the club’s academy and stood in for Moore when he had to self-isolate earlier this season.

Doncaster sit sixth in the League One table, occupying the final play-off spot, having slipped up recently picking up just one point from their last five games.
