The 30-year-old has been recognised for his good form in December, which saw him keep four clean sheets from the five league games he played.

Blackpool’s shot stopper and skipper was in fine form last month, as he helped the Seasiders record wins against Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and Hull City.

Neil Critchley’s side also kept shutouts in their goalless draws against Oxford United and Accrington Stanley.

Maxwell faces competition from Sean Raggett (Portsmouth), Josh Ruffels (Oxford United), Jorge Grant (Lincoln City), Scott Fraser (MK Dons) and Joe Pigott (AFC Wimbledon).

The winner of GiveMeSport's fans' player of the month award will be decided by a public vote.

Voting starts at 11am on Tuesday, January 12 and will run until 9am on Wednesday, January 13.
