But the EFL’s judging panel opted to hand the award to Hull City’s Josh Magennis instead after the striker’s impressive goalscoring form.

Hide AdMagennis, Ballard’s Northern Ireland teammate, scored six times for the title winning Tigers last month, also picking up an assist.
Oxford United full-back Sam Long, who scored three of his side’s 18 goals in April, and Burton Albion’s Joe Powell, who also found the back of the net on three occasions last month, were also nominated for the award.
Grant McCann claimed the League One manager of the month award to complete a double for Hull.
He saw off competition from Lincoln City’s Michael Appleton, Leam Richardson of Wigan Athletic and AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Robinson.
