Blackpool boss Neil Critchley will stick to his principles after slow start

The 19-year-old will remain with the Coasters until January, although Jim Bentley’s side do hold the option to extend the deal until the end of the season.

Shaw, a product of Blackpool’s academy, has impressed under Neil Critchley during pre-season, but has yet to feature in the league.

He did, however, start Blackpool’s goalless EFL Trophy draw against Barrow at the start of September.

Shaw made his competitive Blackpool debut last season in the 5-1 EFL Trophy win against Morecambe, going on to make one further appearance in the competition.

On his move, Shaw said: “It’s a club that’s going in the right direction, has great facilities, great management and everything around the club looks good.

“I hope I can bring goals and assists because I like playing further up the pitch in attacking positions, beating players and hopefully I can help us be right up there to try and get promoted.”

Bentley, whose side begin their campaign with an FA Cup tie away at Hyde United tomorrow, was delighted to bring Shaw in.

“He’s a player we’ve had highly recommended to us, both recently and towards the end of last season as well, if I am honest,” he said.

“He’s kicked on well during pre-season, playing quite a bit for Blackpool and doing well.

“He’s a wide player, who is athletic, good technically and has been playing quite a bit at left-back as well, so he will give us some versatility within the squad and shows us that he is happy to adapt to new positions and challenges.

“He’s young, fresh, energetic and we’re really pleased to have him on board with us.”
