The fee for the 23-year-old has not been disclosed but is believed to be in the region of £200,000 plus add-ons.

He spent almost all of last season on loan with Swindon Town, scoring 13 goals in 31 league appearances to help the Robins win the League Two title. He was also on target in the FA Cup against Cheltenham Town.

Swindon boss Richie Wellens made no secret of his wish to sign the Doncaster-born striker, who was also linked with Sunderland.

The Seasiders say they faced "stiff competition" in order to make Yates their fourth signing of the summer.

Yates told the Blackpool FC website: “I’m buzzing to get this over the line and sign for Blackpool.

"I’ve known about the interest for a while now, so to finally be here is a great feeling. This is an exciting club with a huge fanbase and a big vision for the future.

“I’m ready and waiting to help the club succeed, and I can’t wait for what’s to come.”

Blackpool head coach Neil Critchley added: “I’m delighted that Jerry has decided to join us at Blackpool.

“He works tirelessly for the team and is exactly the kind of player we need to continue moving the club forward.

"He’s honest and has a tremendous work ethic, which is something I’m sure our supporters will identify with.

"His goalscoring record, particularly last season, was excellent, and we’re delighted to welcome him to Bloomfield Road.”

A product of the Millers' youth academy, Yates has been a professional at Rotherham since 2014, making more than 50 appearances in all competitions.

He made his debut against Birmingham in April 2015 and went on to make 27 Championship appearances for the Millers and a further 18 in League One. He netted five times for the South Yorkshire club.

Yates spent the first half of 2018-19 on loan at Carlisle United, scoring six goals in 23 League Two games.
