A third-minute Luke Jephcott header proved to be the difference to condemn the Seasiders to a defeat in their League One curtain raiser.

Despite the end result, Blackpool will be encouraged by their performance, dominating for large parts of the game and creating a host of presentable chances.

"Blackpool are a good team and they will be disappointed that they haven't scored but we have put a lot of bodies on the line and (Michael) Cooper has made a few fantastic saves," Lowe told the Plymouth Herald.

"They will probably look and think they should have won, or at least got a point. I wouldn't argue with that because of the way they played.

"But, for us, we got our goal and we held on. We had to be resilient, we had to be strong and solid, and to play with bravery and our hearts.

"We had to be ruthless to keep those three points and we certainly did that."

Plymouth's opener came after CJ Hamilton had given the ball away near the corner flag, allowing former Seasider Will Aimson to cross for Jephcott at the near post.

"It was great, wasn't it?," Lowe said.

"Without giving too much away, we have worked on counter-pressing and keeping it alive when we give the ball away.

"Will counter-pressed and stayed on it, and it was a great ball. And that's what Jephs does - he gets across his men.

"That's how you score goals, by getting across your centre-halves or the full-backs, whoever it is. It was a great goal."

Argyle dominated a lot of games last season as they clinched automatic promotion from the fourth tier, but Lowe says that might not always be the case in League One.

Lowe said: "The club had a bad time in League One last time and we want to put those wrongs right, and we have started to do that.

"We had a fantastic campaign last year in League Two and we want to have a fantastic campaign again in League One.

"We have to respect every opposition we come up against. Blackpool are a good footballing side but we can’t fear no-one, we have got to go toe-to-toe, whether it’s a fighting style of football, in terms of digging in and being resilient, or it’s patterns of play and getting some good goals.

"Whatever way it is to win, we will try our best to do so."
