Key Events

  • FT: Blackpool 1-2 Middlesbrough
  • Seasiders looking to end 2021 with a win
  • Neil Critchley’s squad decimated by injuries and Covid

Shayne Lavery is set free down the right but his cross is a poor one, ricocheting off a Boro player and away to safety.

It looks like Pool are now playing 4-3-3, with Shayne Lavery and Josh Bowler playing either side of Gary Madine.

Josh Bowler and Shayne Lavery on for Daniel Gretarsson and Jerry Yates.

Boro’s goalscorer Andraz Sporar, meanwhile, is taken off for former Pool striker Uche Ikpeazu.

Pool almost undone on the break as Duncan Watmore takes the ball past the onrushing Dan Grimshaw, before pulling the ball back to Matt Crooks. But Richard Keogh is there to clear.

Crooks is then booked for a bit of afters with Keogh.

Dan Grimshaw doesn’t look particularly convincing as he attempts to deal with Boro’s corner, as the ball falls to Isaiah Jones on the edge of the box but he skews a first-time volley over.

Dujon Sterling does well to stop Duncan Watmore in his tracks, but he can only concede a corner.

Pool must hold on here and not concede a second.

The ball falls nicely for Callum Connolly on the edge of the box, but the midfielder slashes wide.

Duncan Watmore, who has just come off the bench for Boro, curls just over from the edge of the box.

Pool just need to calm it down here.

60 - GOAL BORO (0-1)

Andraz Sporar gets across his man to cleverly flick the ball past Dan Grimshaw at the near post.

Smart finish, it has to be said.

Dan Grimshaw scrambles across his goal as Onel Hernandez curls just wide for Boro.

The game is finally beginning to open up a little now.
