Blackpool v Burnley - live updates

Key Events

  • FT: Blackpool 0-1 Burnley
  • Seasiders take on top-flight neighbours in their penultimate friendly of pre-season
  • Neil Critchley hopeful of having bodies back available following Covid outbreak

Richard Keogh shows good positioning to clear a Dwight McNeil cross from the left. A chant of “KEOGH” goes up from the North Stand.

It’s still all Burnley so far, as you might expect. Pool have yet to really lay a glove on their Premier League opponents.

Chris Maxwell makes his third save of the night - and this is probably his best one.

The stopper gets down well to his left to tip a deflected effort around the post. Great reactions from the skipper.

It should be 1-0 Burnley.

James Husband is beaten in the air by Anthony Gomez, which sees the visitors enjoy a two-on-one situation in the final third. Jay Rodriguez rolls the ball across the face of goal to Lewis Richardson, but the youngster can only stab wide.

18 - Finding their feet

The Seasiders are trying to do everything in a hurry at the moment, which is resulting in one or two errors. They could do with just keeping it simple for a few passages of play to build-up some attacks.

Trialist Mitch Clark, from Leicester City, gives the ball away but makes up for it with a clattering interception seconds later, which receives a round of applause from the Blackpool faithful.

15 - Step-up in quality

It’s hardly world class analysis, but Burnley really do look every inch a top flight side here. Really comfortable in possession of the ball and seem to do everything with an extra zip to their play.

This game is definitely a step-up from the friendlies Pool have played so far.

13 - Good defending

James Husband shows good positioning to deal with a threatening run in-behind.

It has to be said, since those error-strewn displays at the back end of last season, Husband has really settled into that central role. He’s looked especially comfortable there in pre-season.

10 - Under pressure

Burnley have the initiative here. Blackpool are trying their best to build attacks from deep, but they’re struggling to deal with the intensity of Burnley’s high press, which is forcing them into mistakes.

Chris Maxwell is forced into another save as youngster Lewis Richardson is allowed the time and freedom to run towards the Blackpool goal. His eventual shot is a fierce one, but Maxwell manages to turn it behind.

A Matt Lowton cross is partially cleared to Josh Brownhill on the edge of the box. He connects sweetly with a rising volley, but it’s straight at Chris Maxell who claims well.
