The Matt Scrafton column: Why Blackpool are thriving in adversity

The 23-year-old first joined Argyle on loan during the 2019/20 season, enjoying a prolific spell to help Ryan Lowe’s side earn promotion from League Two.

Before the campaign was curtailed due to the coronavirus, Hardie scored seven goals in five starts and eight substitute appearances.

The former Rangers man then rejoined Plymouth at the start of this season, where he has gone on to net a further four goals in 29 games.

However, it’s understood Hardie’s importance to the team is measured in more than goals, with the Scot striking up a strong partnership with 15-goal forward Luke Jephcott.

It’s thought Plymouth are keen to add another loanee, yet already have five on their books including Hardie.

In making Hardie’s season-long loan permanent, that frees up another space for Lowe to fill.

Plymouth have paid an undisclosed fee for Hardie’s services, also handing him a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Hardie scored just one goal in 12 outings for the Seasiders, having joined at the start of Simon Grayson’s tenure in the summer of 2019.

Plymouth boss Lowe said: “We are delighted to get Ryan on a permanent deal. We have agreed an undisclosed fee with Blackpool to keep him here for the long-term. He’s settled down here, his family are here, he’s a great lad to be around with a great attitude.

“He works hard every day, he’s got quality, and we feel we can improve him.

“It’s great to have him here and I am thankful to the board for sanctioning the deal – he’s one for the future of Plymouth Argyle.”
