Blackpool forward responds to head coach stance as he shares confidence following Stockport County goal

Blackpool overcame Stockport County with a 2-1 victory at Edgeley Park at the weekend.

Tom Bloxham bagged his first goal of the season in Blackpool’s 2-1 victory over Stockport County on Saturday afternoon.

The forward opened the scoring in the 22nd at Edgeley Park, before Josh Bowler doubled the Seasiders’ advantage ahead of the break.

While the Hatters had their fair share of opportunities, by the time Mika Mandron’s goal came it was too late for them to stage a comeback.

The fixture marked Bloxham’s first time starting up front alongside Dion Charles, after the pair missed parts of pre-season due to minor injuries.

While initially signed as a winger back in January 2025, the 22-year-old has been converted into a striker during his time in Tangerine, and in that role consistently last season due to injuries to others.

Following the ex-Shrewsbury Town man’s calm finish against Stockport, Blackpool boss Ian Evatt said ‘he wouldn’t be told otherwise’ when it came to debates over him being a natural striker.

Discussing his own transition on the pitch, Bloxham said: “The thing with this gaffer is he’s been really important for me with the things he wants me to do. He’s obviously changed my position, and I’m really enjoying it to be honest.

“It’s coming more naturally to me, which is obviously important. There’s a lot of hard work, but if we all buy in then we’re going to come to places like this and get results.

“The things we do in training are really important, I take note of what the gaffer says, and today with my goal, it’s something we do all week so it’s there on a matchday.”

After bringing the ball down and slotting past Ollie Whatmuff, Bloxham brought out a cowboy celebration for one of his teammates who is currently absent due to injury.

“I just knew I had to have a good first touch, and just set myself for the finish,” he added.

“It’s tough for the keeper when you go hard and low like that. I did the celebration for Fraser Horsfall because I know he used to play here and he told me to do it. He said to do a little horse celebration if I scored.”
