Blackpool boss passes verdict on ex-Reading pair as three trialists get pre-season opportunity
Three trialists were in action for Blackpool against AFC Fylde on Saturday afternoon.
Blackpool offered opportunities to three trialists in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.
Andy Yiadom, Tom McIntyre and Emmanuel Okunowo all featured in the second half of the 3-2 victory over AFC Fylde at Mill Farm, as the Seasiders named two different XIs for either side of the break.
The former of the three recently spent time with Ian Evatt’s side at their pre-season camp in Girona.
The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by Reading at the conclusion of his contract last month, having been at the Select Car Leasing Stadium since 2018.
In 253 appearances for the Berkshire outfit, including 29 in League One last term, he scored four goals and provided 12 assists.
The full back’s former Royals teammate McIntyre is available on a free after being on the books of Portsmouth, Bradford City and Aberdeen during the 2025/26 campaign.
Reading remains the club where the defender picked up his most consistent minutes, having represented the club between 2016 and 2024.
Meanwhile, Blackpool’s third trialist Okunowo is a 20-year-old midfielder who has recently departed Braintree.
Discussing the trio’s time in Tangerine so far, Seasiders head coach Ian Evatt said: “Firstly, their application has been first-class; I can’t speak highly enough of their application. We’re having a good look and getting used to each other, and we’ll continue to do so.
“I was pleased with how it went today, it’s never easy being on trial anywhere. It’s a difficult position to be in, but they’re trying to earn a contract, and as I said, we’re having a good look at them - for now, that suits both parties.
“We’re light on numbers, so we need some extra numbers. All the kids I feel are ready to play at this level in the positions we are short are already involved, but we’re still slightly light, so having a look at trialists is really important.”
