Problem for Blackpool captain shared ahead of Reading trip

Blackpool were defeated 2-1 by Barnsley at Oakwell after a controversial late goal.

Blackpool suffered their first League One defeat of the season away to Barnsley in controversial circumstances - but may have also come away from South Yorkshire with a fresh injury concern.

The late decider was nodded home by Amani Richards in the closing stages, but only after the ball had been knocked in his direction via a handball.

Prior to that, Cameron McGeehan and Josh Bowler had found the back of the net within three minutes of each other, with both teams having opportunities to take the three points before the eventual winner.

In addition to the loss, there was a blow in personnel for the Seasiders at the beginning of the second half, with club captain George Honeyman forced off after receiving treatment.

Providing an update on the midfielder, who has struggled with injury throughout his time at Bloomfield Road so far, Blackpool boss Ian Evatt said: “He’s got a bit of a tight calf - we don’t know how serious it is. We’re hopeful it was a kick, but he can’t remember being kicked.

“We’ll have it imaged and we’ll see how he recovers tomorrow.”

Karoy Anderson also appeared to be struggling towards the end of the contest at Oakwell, but Evatt states no problem was flagged by the Jamaican international at full time, with a trip away to Reading coming up for the Seasiders on Saturday afternoon.

“I think he landed on his back,” the head coach added.

“It was more of a back incident, but he seems fine now. We’ll regroup and go again.”
