An early chance fell Josh Bowler’s way in the opening exchanges, with the 27-year-old almost catching out Murphy Cooper at his front post.
The wing-back tried his luck again shortly after, but couldn’t find enough curl to bend the ball to the inside of the far post.
Down the other end, Ronan Curtis gave the Seasiders their first scare, taking the ball past several players before seeing his eventual shot saved by the boot of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, with the rebound being put wide by Oliver Irow.
The deadlock was broken on the half hour mark. After being on the wrong end of a deflection in Blackpool’s 2-2 draw with Bromley, Jordan Brown benefitted from one.
A first time strike on the edge of the area took a huge touch to send Cooper the wrong way.
The lead didn’t last for long, with the Pilgrims swiftly responding. It proved straightforward for the visitors to work their way into the box, with the ball landing nicely for Irow to smash a shot past Peacock-Farrell on the turn.
Matt Sorinola came close to putting the visitors in front ahead of the break, but his effort from a corner could only find the side-netting.
Another chance to take the lead came Plymouth’s way at the beginning of the second half, with Peacock-Farrell pushing away a free kick from Harvey White.
After a couple of let-offs, the Seasiders were eventually punished in the 51st minute.
A ball to the back post was met by Irow - who made clean contact for his second of the afternoon.
Things quickly got worse for Evatt’s side, with the Pilgrims’ third swiftly following. After being denied on his previous attempt, there was no stopping a powerful strike from White on this occasion.
Heading into the closing 20 minutes, Blackpool pulled a goal back. On the turn, Jerry Yates was able to smash an attempt past Cooper, with the strike killing the inside of the post on its way in.
Any hope of a comeback was ended by a late strike from Pepple - who caught the Seasiders out on the break.
