Blackpool pair have a chance to shine with defender facing a suspension

Ben Heneghan’s absence through suspension presents the likes of Ryan Edwards and Jordan Thorniley with an opportunity to stake their claim for Blackpool.

The on-loan Sheffield United defender will miss the first of his three games this weekend when Pool take on AFC Wimbledon.

It comes after the 26-year-old was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Jonson Clarke-Harris in last week’s 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

When asked if the club considered lodging an appeal given Heneghan claimed he slipped, caretaker boss David Dunn said: “No I don’t think so.

“It looked a lot worse when I’ve looked at it back. He has lost his footing a touch, but when two big lads collide it often looks a little bit worse than it is.

“Ben has apologised and that’s good enough for me.

“What we don’t want to do is for defenders not being fully committed to the cause. We want them to be aggressive and win tackles all over the pitch.

“We can’t take that away from the players, they want to compete. We’ll just have to live without Ben for three games and that creates an opportunity for someone else.”
