Matt Scrafton's player ratings: Leicester loanee Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall continues...

That's according to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was speaking after last night's frustrating 2-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

For the second game running Pool delivered a strong display in one half, yet couldn't sustain it for the entirety of the match.

It comes after the Seasiders were the dominant side in the first half of Saturday's goalless draw at Fleetwood Town, only to be on the back foot for much of the second half.

It was the different way around on this occasion against Tranmere, but ultimately Pool's improved second-half display wasn't enough to come away with a result.

“Ultimately it was lapses in judgement in the first half that have cost us the game," the 21-year-old said.

“We weren’t good enough in the first half, but those lapses in judgement punished us and it was hard to come back from.

“In the second half we gave it our all, we completely dominated and maybe if one or two balls had dropped for us we could have won the game.

"But that second goal just before half time was a killer.

“If you go in 1-0 you know you’re still completely in the game, but it’s a bit tougher at 2-0 especially just before half time, which was a bit of a kick in the stomach.

“We were a bit deflated at half time but we knew we had to come out in the second half and put on a performance for ourselves and for the fans and I thought we did that.

“If we want to keep improving we need to do that for the whole 90 minutes.”

Tranmere held a 2-0 lead at the break courtesy of goals from Morgan Ferrier and James Vaughan.

Dewsbury-Hall pulled one back for the Seasiders on the hour mark, but Neil Critchley's men were unable to find that all-important equaliser despite enjoying swathes of pressure.

“When I scored the goal I thought we were playing really well, it gave us a massive lift," the on-loan Leicester City man said.

“We were camped in their half and I thought it was only a matter of time until we go on and get another.

“We had a lot of chances, but it just wasn’t falling for us.

“They were time wasting and played it out like we expected them to, which made it really frustrating.

“We know where they are in the league, they’re fighting to stay up, so once they went 2-0 up we knew they would be hanging onto that lead for their lives.

“Second half we knew we had to remain patient and keep moving the ball to send them deeper and deeper and opportunities would come.

“They did come and if we were a bit more clinical on another night we’d be talking about a point or maybe all three.”

Reflecting on his strike, Dewsbury-Hall added: “I don’t think I’ve hit many sweeter than that, maybe one.

“As soon as it left my boot and I looked up I knew it was flying into the corner.

“Then I just wanted to get the ball back onto the centre spot as quickly as possible and try and get a second goal.

“Unfortunately it didn’t come.”
