Blackpool FC boss issues injury update on ex-Millwall man following early exit in pre-season friendly

George Honeyman was forced off in Blackpool’s pre-season friendly away to AFC Fylde.

Blackpool were dealt a fresh injury blow in their opening friendly of pre-season - with George Honeyman exiting early.

The Seasiders claimed a 3-2 victory over AFC Fylde at Mill Farm, with Tom Bloxham and Albie Morgan both on the scoresheet in the first half, and while Niall Ennis bagged either side of a Dylan Allen-Hadley brace after the break following a complete change to the XI.

Honeyman was part of the team to start the contest, but was forced off in the 34th minute.

After making the move to Bloomfield Road as a free agent from Millwall last summer, the midfielder endured several spells on the sidelines in a frustrating first season in Tangerine.

Providing an update on the 31-year-old latest issue, Blackpool boss Ian Evatt said: “He’s got a bit of a tight groin. I’m not sure how that is at the moment, but he looked so sharp before that.

“Injuries happen - you saw it last season when we were on the rough side of it. We’re trying to make them more robust, playing at the intensity I want us to play at. It’s not easy but the players have bought into it, they’ve worked so hard, and hopefully we’ll see the benefit come the start of the season.

“George’s groin was getting tighter and tighter, there was no point taking too big of a risk. He’s upset and frustrated because he feels in a really good spot. He’s super fit and has trained so well. He was really looking forward to today’s game so that was the disappointment there.

“Until we get an image, we won’t know how serious it is, but we don’t think it’s that bad.”
