It follows Thursday’s announcement of a £300m emergency fund from the government to support 11 sports that can no longer rely on income from spectators during the pandemic.
Football’s share has been restricted to the women’s game and to men’s non-league competitions because the government believes the EFL should be subsidised by the Premier League.

Critchley told the Gazette: “I’m not a politician but I think any help for Football League clubs would be most welcome.
“It’s a very precarious time. Clubs are struggling financially and that will continue until supporters come back, so help would be most appreciated wherever it comes, though I know the situation is very complicated.
“I’m not privy to the ins and outs of the discussions but the longer this goes on it won’t get better.”

Hide AdReports are suggesting that a Premier League/EFL deal has been agreed in principle and could be finalised next week.
Critchley hopes a solution can be found with so much at stake, adding: “It’s not just the football side, it’s the communities we are in and a whole bigger picture.
“There are wider issues here and some assistance would be greatly appreciated.
“Until the fans return, clubs will be under great financial constraints and pressure, and their existence will be under threat, so hopefully a resolution can be found sooner rather than later.
