In a poll run by GiveMeSport, the 30-year-old picked up an impressive 58 per cent of the vote.

Blackpool’s captain has been recognised for his good form last month, which saw him keep four clean sheets from the five league games he played.

The shot stopper was in fine form as he helped the Seasiders record wins against Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and Hull City.

Neil Critchley’s side also kept shutouts in their goalless draws against Oxford United and Accrington Stanley.

Lincoln City’s Jorge Grant finished second with 16 per cent of the vote and Scott Fraser, of MK Dons, was third with 13 per cent.

Joe Pigott of AFC Wimbledon, Portsmouth defender Sean Raggett and Oxford United man Josh Ruffels were also nominated.

Despite being forced to self-isolate for 10 days over the Christmas and New Year period after testing positive for coronavirus, Maxwell continued his fine form on his return at the weekend as he saved three spot kicks to help Blackpool beat West Brom on penalties in the third round of the FA Cup.
