Pool take to the road to face a resurgent Shrewsbury Town side on Tuesday before making the trip to Bristol Rovers the following weekend.

Shrewsbury are in superb form at the moment, having recorded three straight league victories under new boss Steve Cotterill and moved themselves out of the relegation zone in the process.

“I went to watch Shrewsbury at Doncaster on Tuesday night and they’re in fantastic form,” Critchley recognised.

“They’ve beaten Doncaster, they’ve beaten Hull and they’ve beaten Lincoln all 1-0, which are unbelievable results.

“We know going to Shrewsbury will be an extremely difficult test because Steve Cotterill has taken over and had an immediate impact on those players.

“You could see that against Doncaster because they were full of confidence, having won some tough games.

“Then we go to Bristol Rovers, who haven’t had the season they would have wanted so far, but any team coached by Paul Tisdale will be well prepared and will be a tough nut to crack.

“Doncaster could have gone top on Tuesday night, but Shrewsbury went there and beat them 1-0 which sort of sums up the league for me.

“It’s fine lines and a bit of luck, but if you’re not really ready or at it, then you get beaten in this league so consistency is absolutely critical.”
