But all three fixtures have now been postponed in line with guidance.

The club issued an update this afternoon, confirming a number of precautionary measures had been put in place, including the closure of the reception, club shop and ticket office.

The statement read: "Following a statement issued by The EFL today, all matches in the English professional game have been suspended until April 3 at the earliest.

"As a result, Blackpool’s first-team fixtures against Sunderland (March 14), Shrewsbury Town (March 21) and Peterborough United (March 29), as well as all reserve, youth team and academy games during that period, have been postponed.

"These actions have been taken in response to the developing situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) and to help prevent and contain the spread of the virus.

"Blackpool Football Club has already taken a number of its own precautionary measures at the stadium and will now close its reception, ticket office and club shop from 5pm today until 9am on Monday, March 23 at the earliest. Supporters will still be able to order items online, however.

"All tickets purchased for fixtures affected by the postponements will remain valid for the rearranged dates, once confirmed.

"The club can also confirm that it has suspended its academy players’ training programme until March 30 and cancelled all non-essential activities, including player appearances.
