Blackpool FC Community Trust column: Proud of our programmes

There has been a lot of discussion and amazing work done recently to help children who receive free school meals to continue being supported during school holidays, and Blackpool FC has also played its part to help locally.

The BFC Hotel has offered free meals to children over half-term, a great gesture at a time of significant financial difficulty.

We have also continued our partnership with Blackpool Council and their Public Health team to deliver holiday sports camps once again. These include meals, which have been offered free of charge at both our Highfield and Unity sites to local children who receive free school meals.

We delivered this programme in the summer school holidays and plan to do so again in February and at Easter. We are also developing plans for how we can help at Christmas.

This past week has also seen us deliver our holiday activity camp for local young people with disabilities, offering some positive activity and respite for parents and families.

We’re really proud of the school holiday offer we deliver locally and hope we can get back to a little more normality by the time our next round of camps come around in February half-term.

With the half-term holiday also upon us, we have completed the first period of delivering our PL Primary Stars, Fit2Go and Unstoppable programmes in local primary schools, and our Children In Need provision in local special schools.

The team have been fantastic in adapting to difficult circumstances and making sure our standards of delivery remain at their highest.

We have also completed the first half-term at our BFC Sports College.

It’s certainly been a challenging period with all the guidance we must follow to maintain a safe bubble.

This time of year normally sees most transition, with students coming and going.

We started the year with 70 students and are finishing this period with 69.

So we have enjoyed massive success in keeping all the students engaged and motivated in very unusual circumstances, making sure we can educate face to face on a full-time basis.
