Ex-Blackpool FC, Derby County and Luton Town figure harshly sacked after seven month stint
Wolves have sacked former Blackpool defender Rob Edwards following their relegation to the Championship.
Former Blackpool defender Rob Edwards has been sacked by Wolves after just seven months in the hot seat at Molineux.
Having started the season strongly in charge of Middlesbrough in the Championship, the 43-year-old made the decision to ditch life at the Riverside Stadium in order to return to the club he featured for most in his playing days.
The situation was pretty dire for the Old Gold at the time of Edwards’ appointment, with just two points on the board after 11 games.

It took a while for the ex-Seasiders figure to have an impact, with his first point only coming at the end of December in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, before tasting victory for the first time a few days later with a 3-0 win over West Ham United.
Despite enjoying a better second half to the season, the improvement was nowhere near enough to pull off a great escape, with Wolves finishing 20th in the Premier League on 20 points - 21 from safety.
Due to the nature of Edwards’ inheritance, many expected him to be at the heart of the Molineux rebuild in the Championship, with the coach quoted following the Old Gold’s signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez earlier this week.
Portuguese coach César Peixoto has already been tipped to take over the West Midlands outfit, having guided Gil Vicente to a sixth place finish in the recent Primeira Liga season.
Edwards’ career so far

Edwards started his football career with Aston Villa, making nine first-team appearances for the club.
Following loan spells with Crystal Palace and Derby County, he made the move across the midlands to Wolves - where he spent four years.
The centre back made the move to Blackpool in 2008, and went on to register 67 appearances for the club throughout his three-season stay.
His time on the Fylde Coast coincided with the Seasiders’ promotion to the Premier League under Ian Holloway, and among the substitutes in the 2010 play-off final victory over Cardiff City at Wembley.
The latter stages of his playing career included time with Barnsley, and loan spells with Fleetwood Town and Shrewsbury Town.
Following an interim spell as Wolves coach, Edwards’ first permanent management role was with AFC Telford, before working with England U16s.
He stepped into the EFL with the Forest Green Rovers, before experiencing a short stint with Watford.
Edwards joined Luton Town in 2022 - which coincided with the Hatters reaching the Premier League via the play-offs.
The Bedfordshire outfit were ultimately relegated from the top flight after one season, finishing 18th after picking up just six wins.
Luton’s struggles then continued into the last Championship campaign - which prompted the departure of the ex-Seasiders man shortly after the Christmas period.
This ultimately didn’t change the Hatters’ fortunes, with the club unable to avoid another relegation.
