Neil Critchley: Great to be back at Blackpool and feeling like a coach again

It’s been widely reported that the 26-year-old is due to travel north of the border today to finalise a move to the SPL side.

Edwards, who Mellon tried to sign for Tranmere Rovers last summer, is expected to join the Scottish outfit on a permanent deal after agreeing to terminate his contract at Bloomfield Road.

The centre back had previously been a target for Bolton Wanderers and held talks with Ian Evatt’s men on more than one occasion.

The former Plymouth Argyle man, who played with Evatt at Chesterfield, made 27 appearances for the Seasiders last season in what was his first campaign with the club.

A Terry McPhillips signing last summer, the 6ft 5ins centre back was a regular during the first half of the season but he found himself out of Pool’s starting XI from January onwards following the arrival of Taylor Moore during the January transfer window.

The Bristol City loanee often partnered Ben Heneghan in the centre of defence or alongside James Husband as part of a back three.

The 26-year-old scored one goal during his time at Bloomfield Road, which came in the 2-1 win against Oxford United in August.

Salford City had previously been mentioned as a potential destination for Edwards earlier this summer.

Dundee United drew 1-1 with St Johnstone on Saturday in Mellon’s first league game in charge.

They face Motherwell next weekend.
