We need the fans back says Blackpool boss Neil Critchley

The 31-year-old ends his two-year association with the Seasiders, making the move to the Crown Ground for an undisclosed fee.

Nottingham began the season as part of Blackpool’s first-choice centre-back pairing alongside Marvin Ekpiteta, starting in the club’s opening five games of the season.

However, he was dropped from Blackpool’s squad for last week’s clash against Lincoln City following an error-strewn display in the 2-0 defeat at Gillingham the previous week.

He was also absent from Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy group game against his new club Stanley.

The club would then bolster their defensive options on Monday with the double signing of Dan Ballard, on loan from Arsenal, and Icelandic centre-back Daniel Gretarsson.

"It came about very quickly but I wanted to speak to the manager (John Coleman) as soon as I could and he sold it to me straight away," Nottingham said.

"He said he's been an admirer of mine for many years and that he'd tried to sign me in the past and he feels like I can play a massive part in taking the club forward."

Having made the move to Bloomfield Road in 2018 from Salford City, who were non-league at the time, Nottingham went on to make 50 appearances for the club, scoring five times.

Neil Critchley opted to take up a 12-month option on his contract at the end of last season after Nottingham had impressed on loan with Crewe Alexandra, where he had helped Dave Artell’s side to promotion from League Two.

Nottingham’s departure frees up the defender’s wages and creates another free spot ahead of next week’s October 16 transfer deadline.

The defender becomes the 20th player to leave Blackpool since the end of last season.

Stanley boss Coleman is delighted to finally get his man, having tied down the defender to a three-year deal.

"He's someone we've tracked all summer and he fits the bill for what we want and the style we're going to play," he said.

"He chips in with goals, he's good in the air and he's one who ticks all the boxes for us."
