According to the Bolton News, new Trotters boss Ian Evatt has added Edwards’ name to a shortlist of centre backs he is interested in signing.

Edwards, who is still under contract at Bloomfield Road, could be allowed to leave if the Seasiders bring in further defensive reinforcements.

While Marvin Ekpiteta was a recent arrival from Leyton Orient, Pool still only have Edwards and Jordan Thorniley as their only other natural centre backs.

The former Plymouth Argyle man, who played with Evatt at Chesterfield, made 27 appearances for the Seasiders last season in what was his first campaign with the club.

A Terry McPhillips signing last summer, the 6ft 5ins centre back was a regular during the first half of the season but he found himself out of Pool’s starting XI from January onwards following the arrival of Taylor Moore during the January transfer window.

The Bristol City loanee often partnered Ben Heneghan in the centre of defence or alongside James Husband as part of a back three.

The 26-year-old scored one goal during his time at Bloomfield Road, which came in the 2-1 win against Oxford United in August.

Salford City had previously been mentioned as a potential destination for Edwards earlier this summer.

One man who could be heading the other way is midfielder Jason Lowe, who has been linked with a switch to Blackpool.

The 28-year-old, who recently came to the end of his contract with the Trotters, is also a reported target for Fleetwood Town.

The defensive midfielder, who could be a natural replacement for Jay Spearing, made 24 appearances for Bolton last season.

Lowe has previously spent the majority of his career in the Championship, having played for Blackburn Rovers prior to his move to the University of Bolton Stadium.

Both Blackpool and Fleetwood will be looking to strengthen in central midfield this summer.

The Seasiders will want a midfield partner for Matty Virtue while Glenn Whelan, Kyle Dempsey and Dean Marney are all out of contract at Highbury.
