In total, 37 members of the club’s players and staff were tested.

The remainder of the squad is unaffected and today’s game at the Amex Stadium will go ahead as planned.

“Blackpool Football Club can confirm that the recent testing of 37 players and staff returned five positive COVID-19 results,” the club said in a statement.

“The individuals affected are currently self-isolating in line with EFL and Government protocol and will be welcomed back to the club in due course. We wish them all a speedy recovery.

“Today’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Brighton & Hove Albion is unaffected by this development.”

The Seasiders are already without defender Demetri Mitchell, who is self-isolating having returned a positive test at the start of last week.

Daniel Gretarsson, Keshi Anderson and CJ Hamilton are also out injured, although Neil Critchley is hoping to have Dan Ballard, Grant Ward and Bez Lubala fit and available for selection.

The five players, who haven’t been named, will also miss Pool’s upcoming league games against Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion.
