The Seasiders have lost six of their opening nine league games this season, leaving them hovering just about the bottom four.

It makes for a huge encounter at the Pirelli Stadium today where Critchley’s men take on bottom side Burton Albion, who sit just a point behind them in the table.

Critchley remains adamant his Blackpool side is performing well in the main but, having scored just seven goals this season, the club’s head coach admits improvements have to be made.

“In certain moments of the game, we’ve quite simply got to do better,” he said.

“We’ve got to demand more of each other. With this group of players, we should be doing more. We should be doing better than we are.

“For large periods of games, we are doing lots of good things. Certainly the effort, endeavour and commitment is without question.

“We can produce better quality in certain parts of the game, i.e. with some of the chances and opportunities we created the other night even with 10 and nine men. If we produce a little bit better quality, we come away with a point and we think differently.

“Just those one or two moments, some are really frustrating because they’re genuine, honest mistakes which are costing us. But the goal the other night, we should do better in that moment.

“We have a saying that everyone is responsible for everything and that’s the way we’ve got to look at every moment in the game. It’s not just an individual thing, it’s a collective and at the moment – collectively – we need to do a lot better.”

Today’s opponents Burton have only won one game this season but they will be buoyed by their result in midweek, when they came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Peterborough United.

Brewers boss Jake Buxton believes that could be an important result for them leading into this afternoon’s game against the Seasiders.

“I said to the players ‘do not underestimate the point we’ve got there’,” Buxton said.

“There were a lot of emotions throughout the game. The character of the group is really good.

“I’m very proud of them and it puts us in a positive mood heading into Saturday’s game against Blackpool.”
