Blackpool boss Simon Grayson believes he can turn their poor form around

It comes after the Seasiders slumped to yet another defeat at the weekend when they were beaten 2-1 by Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.

It leaves the side 15th in League One, 13 points adrift of the play-offs having lost six of their last seven league outings.

When asked if he will get the time to turn it around, Grayson told The Gazette: “I don’t know, but I’m trusting myself because I have experience of going through difficult stages.

“I think you’ve seen against Oxford it’s a team that is trying and is working hard.

“They’ve got a point to prove, as we all do, so we’ve got to stick together in that dressing room.

“We’ve got to win football matches because I’m not daft, I know we’re on a real poor run and we need to get out of it quickly for everybody’s sake.”

Grayson was insistent that his players had delivered a good performance at the Kassam, despite the result making it 10 games without a win in all competitions.

However, the under-fire Pool boss said that their defensive mistakes were to blame for their latest defeat.

“You can’t get away from the fact that there were some good performances,” he added.

“Chris Maxwell I thought was very positive in how he played on his debut and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was outstanding, getting on the ball and making us tick.

“Connor Ronan also got in the pockets like we asked him to do in the 4-4-2 shape we played, so there were some positive performances despite the difficult period we’re going through.

“If we keep playing like we did on Saturday and eradicate the mistakes, we’ve got a chance of winning a lot more matches.”

Grayson opted to ring the changes for the second time in a week, making four in total from the side that also lost 2-1 at Wycombe Wanderers in midweek.

In came Maxwell for his debut and Dewsbury-Hall for his first start, while Liam Feeney and Armand Gnanduillet both returned after surprisingly being dropped to the bench at Adams Park.

Mark Howard, Grant Ward, Nathan Delfouneso and Joe Nuttall were the four players to make way.

“It was another difficult selection,” Grayson admitted.

“When you lose a match on Tuesday night you look at the situation.

“We went from a back three to a 4-4-2 which meant there would be no grey areas.

“One or two players were ready to come into the team from the start, like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after he played 45 minutes against Wycombe.

“There are decisions to be made and we have to do that because we need to find a formula that is going to turn around results at this moment in time.”
