Blackpool boss Simon Grayson believes a win isn’t far away

Under-pressure Blackpool boss Simon Grayson stopped short of labelling this weekend’s clash with lowly Southend United as “must win”.

But the Seasiders chief, who has overseen an alarming run of 10 games without a win, insists his side aren’t “far away” from turning their fortunes around.

Pool, who have lost six of their last seven league outings, return to Bloomfield Road this weekend to take on a Southend side that have won just three league games all season.

Some have suggested Grayson’s future could be in doubt if his side fail to pick up three points.

“It’s a game we’re desperate to win,” Grayson said.

“We just need a win to get us up and running because it isn’t far away.

People might disagree with me but the dressing room and all our staff, who have been around football for a long time, realise that we haven’t done bad in the last few games.

“At Wycombe, we dominated the second half, at Oxford we did some good things but we just have to make sure we do the defensive side a little bit better.

“You’ve seen with the window we’ve had that we’ve brought in some better quality players, but we just have to put the whole thing together.

“We have a free week now to integrate those new players. We will have a behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday for some lads to get some game time.

“It has been an incredible window, it’s a window that I’ve never experienced at any other football club in my life before.

“I think it’s something like 24 deals in total, 12 in and 12 out, and full credit to the owner for doing that.

“I think everyone can see these new arrivals will enhance the squad without a shadow of a doubt.

“I wasn’t joking when I said at the start of the window that we’ll be one of the busiest clubs in this window.

“We have brought in quality and once we get that victory it will just give us a confidence boost, then we can still get some big results over the next few weeks and months.”
